September 11th, Thirteen Years Hence – Time for True Justice

Hard truths we must never forget, that should be resolved, but never will.

George W. Bush – The Man. The Myth. The Dangerous Talking Monkey.

Now that we’ve passed another sad, solemn anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001, it’s truly time to face some of the hard and difficult to digest realities of that horrendous day and of the days and related events that preceded it.  There were two men largely responsible for it all, whose actions and inactions, malicious judgments and devastating and deadly unintelligence allowed the strikes to proceed, the consequences of which have both directly and indirectly lead to the sad state the world finds itself in today, whose criminal behaviors and activities have resounded across the globe and will very likely continue to do so for decades to come. One was brought to justice, Osama Bin Laden; the other remains a free man, George W. Bush.

The actuality is, and this is not just the conjecture of yours truly, an admittedly far-left, biased blogger, but is, instead, documented fact - the most sorrowful, heinous, harrowing and  tragic assault on U.S. soil need not to have occurred.  Our 43rd President and his equally complicit coterie were warned on numerous occasions of the impending peril, and to the great detriment of our country, its citizens and the international community, simply chose to ignore the dangers, and nearly 3000 innocents paid with their lives.  Following that, as we are all painfully aware, the mis-administration then compounded the malignity of their deadly decision, and its aftermath, to launch a lethal campaign of lies leading to the invasion of Iraq, resulting in another, completely avoidable, 195,000 fatalities.  ISIS, the devils that Bush’s deeds have created and set loose, is forever grateful; and W, despite his current status as a sought after international criminal for his war crimes and crimes against humanity, happily paints poor still-life’s from the comfort of his home rather than in a 10 by 10 cell.

“The direct warnings to Mr. Bush about the possibility of an Al Qaeda attack began in the spring of 2001.” – New York Times, September 12, 2010

Again, lest you believe what follows to be just the imaginings of a spiteful, George W detesting progressive, on April 10, 2004, the vile Bush White House reluctantly released previously classified briefs, illuminating the nature of their connivance and guilt. Their concern, however, proved unwarranted as most Americans still remain unaware of this evidence that, despite its gravity and historical significance, could not push Kimye, Miley or the drunken, hillbilly exploits of a certain Alaskan clan out of the daily headlines.
Here then, direct from the fine research and reportage of the London Daily Mail, presented with no prejudicial commentary from your partisan pundit, what the Oval Office knew, and when they knew it  -
September 5th, 2014 London Daily Mail – “IGNORED WARNINGS: THE CIA BRIEFS ABOUT AL QAEDA ATTACK”
“May 1, 2001 CIA told White House that 'a group presently in the United States' was planning a terrorist operation 'with explosives'
June 22, 2001 CIA brief reported that Al Qaeda attacks could be 'imminent'
June 29, 2001 Warning that the government needed to take briefs seriously. Added evidence included Bin Laden aides warning of an attack and operatives claiming it would have 'dramatic consequences'
July 1, 2001 Brief said the operation had been delayed but 'will occur soon'
July 9, 2001 Extremist in Chechnya linked to Al Qaeda told followers there would soon be big news - and within 48 hours the information was passed to the White House
July 24, 2001 Bush told the attack was still under preparation but that it had been postponed
August 6, 2001 Bush received review of threats posed by Al Qaeda with headline: 'Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.'”

“In response, the C.I.A. prepared an analysis that all but pleaded with the White House to accept that the danger from Bin Laden was real… Yet, the White House failed to take significant action.” – New York Times, September 12, 2010

The Company He Keeps

Euripedes (subject of the classic vaudeville, Ancient Greek tailor joke, “Euripedes?” “Yeah, Eumenides?”) once famously penned, “One can judge a man by the company he keeps.” Heartbreakingly, many thousands of guiltless lives have been lost because of the dreadful determinations of the Bush government, here’s how his fatality tally compares with a few of his toxic contemporaries-

·         Bush Death Count (so far) – 197,966
9/11 Attacks (WTC, Airliners, Pentagon Building) – 2996
Iraqi War (Combatants and Civilians) - 195,000
·         Bin Laden  (including 9/11 overlap with W) – approximately 10,000
·         Syrian President Bashar al-Assad – 80,000 – 90,000
·         Saddam Hussein – 500,000 – 600,000

Another noxious number to throw in the mix – Halliburton Iraq War Profits –  $39.5 billion, meaning that each unnecessary and preventable death was worth $202,564 for Halliburton and Dick Cheney, former CEO, and current owner of millions of dollars in company share options.

Faces of Evil
Perhaps we can allow for some tremendous charity and give Bush II, a slight benefit of the doubt regarding intent.  Maybe his decisions were not driven by the same degree of pure, crazy, desperate evilness of the others listed, but rather by his astonishing, stupendous, striking, spectacular, bewildering, pathetic, and historical level of stupidity. But, nevertheless, profound ignorance does not negate guilt or responsibility.

Commander in Chimp
The Greatest Accomplishment of the Dishonorable George W. Bush, 43rd President of the United States of America
In an essay such as this, one so partisan and so devastatingly and overwhelmingly critical, “in the name of honesty, in the name of what is fair” (Carly Simon lyric) we must search for even the tiniest shred of balance, and shine our smartphone flashlight apps on whatever minute particle of positivity can be excavated from this great, enveloping cavern of bleak darkness. So, to give credit where credit is due, and this is not by any means an easily achievable success, W has been able to make Sarah Palin seem not nearly as simple-minded in comparison.

"I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority… I am truly not that concerned about him." – George W. Bush.

Barack Obama and our elite fighting forces completed the necessary enterprise that Bush deemed unimportant and eventually gave up on, getting Osama Bin Laden. Now, it’s time to finally realize comprehensive justice for all those victims of both September 11th and the catastrophic and unrequired Iraq war, with the investigation and incarceration of George W. Bush.

President Obama didn’t follow through on calls for such inquiry and prosecution of the Bush/Cheney regime as he felt it would be an embarrassment to America and he wished to put their lawlessness behind us. But, as current events substantiate, Obama’s wish cannot be fulfilled, and never can without proper, legal closure.  Irreparable damage has been done that we may be dealing with for generation upon generation to come. And Obama was wrong, for rather than being a humiliation to our nation, legal proceedings against the disgraced ex-president would demonstrate to the international community that the United States believes and practices our principles and values and will always look to right wrongs no matter how powerful those who committed them may be.

Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld and Powell all need to be scrutinized for their roles in selling the fatal falsehoods of the Iraqi war and for their dismissal of the security warnings leading to the September 11 disaster. All need to answer to the American people, to the families of those loved ones no longer with us, and if indeed found guilty, each must face the consequences.

Time for final justice.

Looking at the sky, starry-eyed
Searchin' for the place, weary-eyed
Crying in the night, teary-eyed
Don't you know that it's true
That for me and for you
The world is a ghetto” – War

  1. It's not just stupidity on Bush's part. When he & Cheney took office, they were determined to dismantle and un-prioritize the things Clinton felt were important - including the terrorist group Al Queda - as, among others, Richard Clark highlighted in his first book.
And in going into Iraq, Bush wanted to show up his Dad by 'completing the job' of getting Saddam.
Emotional intelligence is a commodity we MUST expect in all future leaders.
Obama, with his deliberate, cautious approach has it in spades. The crucial question is, do the voters have enough of it?
